Message from the Chief
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the City of Clanton and Clanton Police Department's Website. I am appreciative of your interest not only in our beautiful city but the police department as well. The City of Clanton Police Department is entering some exciting times. Not only is the department preparing itself to be a professional police department that is growing with our community, but we are undergoing some major technology upgrades that will help reduce costs, improve efficiency, and move us toward a "greener" environment by reducing our use of paper.

Currently the Clanton Police Department is upgrading our computer Infrastructure and Records Management Software. Our current RMS is a DOS based system purchased in the late 90's that is no longer compatible with our Federal and State Reporting Requirements. Our new computer network and RMS system will move us toward a paperless environment that will meet all our reporting requirements. This new Computer Network will also expand to meet our future requirement of Mobile Data Computers.

The second phase of our technology upgrade will place Mobile Data Computers in every one of our patrol cars. These computers will allow the officers to do all their reporting in the field, issue citations electronically, and file accident reports electronically. Currently all our reports are hand written and then mailed to the state for reporting requirements. When our upgrades are complete all the reoorts will be electronically submitted from the patrol car, reducing costs by not generating printed reports, making us more efficient by allowing the officers more time in the field, reducing payroll by not having a clerk doing data entry, and allowing our officers to better prepare and present a criminal case. While the initial cost of these upgrades is substantial, the return on our investment will be great in the annual cost savings by moving to a paperless, electronic environment.

Of course, I would not be able to do any of this without the outstanding leadership of the Mayor and City Council. Their fiscal management has placed the City of Clanton in a situation where we are able to pursue technology upgrades such as this without placing an undue burden on the city or its taxpayers. I want to thank them for their leadership and extend a thank you to all our officers who do an outstanding job protecting our fine city.

I look forward to the future of the city of Clanton and the Clanton Police Department. If I can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to call my office at (205) 755-1194.
