Readiness
The Clanton Police Department is a professional policing agency that is preparing itself to grow with our community. Currently the Clanton
Police Department is authorized 25 sworn personnel, 3 non sworn park security officers, and one animal control officer. Our Department is
divided into two divisions: Patrol Division and Detective Division.
Patrol Division: consists of 18 officers who cover the City of Clanton 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Our Patrol Officers
work 8 hour shifts. The Patrol division responds to over 1,900 calls for service per month. Each shift is supervised by a Sergeant and Corporal.
All of our patrol officers are assigned their own patrol car. The patrol division also has a K9 Handler who manages both a drug detection dog
named 'Winnie' and a Bomb Detection Dog named 'Tiger'. Within the patrol division we have 3 part time non sworn park security officers. These
officers are assigned to our city parks to provide information, security, and traffic direction at city park events.
Detective Division: General Crime Detectives who handle all felony crimes against persons and/or property, Narcotics
Detectives who handle crimes involving the sale, use, trafficking, and distribution if controlled substance crimes, and the Clanton Housing
Authority officers. The City of Clanton has recently added officers assigned full time to the Clanton Housing Authority. These officers are
assigned to the area to patrol, work felony cases, and build relationships. Our Detectives Division receives around 150 new cases per month to
investigate.
The Clanton Police Department also has the only Explorer Post in Chilton County. Our Explorers provide a valuable service to the police
department by working events such as the Peach Festival, Peach Parade, The Chilton County Fair, homecoming and Christmas Parades. Our Explorers
raise their own funds annually and give selflessly back to our community. They are appreciated. If you would like to become an Explorer or
Auxiliary please contact Officer David Hicks 205-755-1194.
Clanton Police Officers are issued Sig Sauer P226 .40 cal handguns, M4 .223 cal rifles and a 12 Gauge Shotgun. Each officer is provided
with a bullet proof vest and a uniform allowance to buy and maintain department required uniforms. All Clanton Police Officers are required to
be APOSTC certified and maintain their certification by attending at least 16 CEU hours per year.
The Clanton Police Department participates in numerous events throughout each year such as the Peach Jam, Peach Festival, Peach Parade,
The Chilton County Fair, and National Night Out to name a few. The Police Department is committed to providing the community with information
and Chief Stilwell has addressed numerous community groups in order to help accomplish this task. If you would like Chief Stilwell or a member
of his department to speak to your community group please call the office at 205-755-1194 to schedule the date.
